August Community Conversation
This month's meeting was Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Monthly community meetings are convened over Zoom to discuss topics of interest. Usually there are no planned agendas and community members bring ideas and questions to share.
This meeting covered engagement of the community, code refactoring, roadmap requests, and working groups.
Community Engagement
- 2:22 – Discussion on best way to communicate among our group and the community at large. Slack is a good place for questions; however, history is not maintained. Using GitHub discussions for long term and historical purposes is preferred. Anything added to current repository discussions will be moved when the repository is moved.
- 11:57 - Participants emphasized the high priority of creating developer documentation to improve the project's accessibility
Code Refactoring
- 5:36 – Discussions around what, if any, code refactoring others have done so far. Gauging level of interest in this type of work among the community. The need to address duplicated code and lack of consistent coding standards is a high priority.
- 11:57 - The group discussed using GitHub pipelines and linters to check for code formatting issues
Project Roadmap and Governance:
- 15:26 – Community expressed interest in long term roadmap. This is a high priority for all users. Community wants to provide input.
- 34:05 – ColdFront team and several collaborators have applied for NSF POSE phase 1 funding. If successful, part of this project will be to address governance plans for ColdFront.
